Fair pricing for a wooden bed in India, A Good Life

How Much Should a Wooden Bed Actually Cost in India?

Bed prices in India span an enormous range, roughly ₹10,000 on the low end to well over ₹2,00,000 for premium teak, and without a framework, that range tells you almost nothing about what any specific bed should actually cost.

Price Bands by Wood Type (Queen Size)

Engineered wood or composite frames typically run ₹10,000 to ₹15,000, a reasonable choice for short-term use but not built for a decade of nightly weight. Solid sheesham frames span a wide ₹20,000 to ₹1,20,000, with the low end covering simple designs without storage and the high end covering hydraulic storage and detailed carving. Solid teak, the premium traditional choice, generally runs ₹45,000 to ₹1,50,000. A well-built solid pinewood frame, like The Poka Bed, typically sits in the ₹40,000 to ₹70,000 range, priced below teak and toward the middle of the sheesham range, reflecting genuine solid timber construction without the density premium of denser hardwoods.

King Size Costs More, Predictably

Across every wood type, king size frames generally run 20 to 30 percent more than queen in the same material and design, a fairly consistent markup driven by the extra timber and structural reinforcement a wider frame needs.

What Actually Moves Price Within a Wood Type

Storage mechanisms add meaningfully to cost, hydraulic lift storage in particular, sometimes ₹10,000 to ₹20,000 over an equivalent frame without it. Joinery quality matters too, a frame built with real interlocking or dovetail joinery costs more to produce than one assembled with screws and brackets, even in the same wood. Finish complexity, hand-carving, multiple polish rounds, upholstered headboards, adds further cost on top of the base material.

What to Watch For

A "solid wood" queen bed priced under ₹15,000 to ₹18,000 is very likely engineered wood mislabeled, genuine solid timber rarely clears the cost floor of raw material and labour below that range, regardless of wood species.

The Honest Verdict

Budget by years of expected use, not just sticker price. A queen frame at ₹50,000 used nightly for fifteen years works out to roughly ₹9 per day, cheaper over its lifetime than a ₹15,000 engineered frame replaced three times in the same period.
